WE ROCK ADULT MUSIC RETREAT

Grown folx, 18+ and out of high school, who identify as cis-female, trans, and gender-expansive are welcome to join our adult programming.

In this long-weekend (3 or 4 days) intensive, adults 18+ and out of high school get the signature Summer Rock Camp experience, but this time: all for the grown folx!

In addition to making friends and having fun, rockers will form bands on their first day of the retreat! In addition to personal instrument instruction, they will collaborate & write one original tune, and learn a curated cover tune. Bands will be mentored by at least one band coach. Rockers also have the opportunity to learn from our workshops ranging from Audio Engineering, and Self-care, to Bystander Training, Songwriting, and the Herstory of Women & Folx in Music.

We offer rockers instruction on: keys, vocals, guitar, bass guitar, drums, aux and synths. Instruments are provided!

You will have the option to select top instrument interests when you apply. Staff make every effort to honor first choices while maintaining a perfect mix for each band.

If it’s your first time playing an instrument, we recommend keys! If you are a returning rocker, maybe give yourself a little push and try something new, or stick with your tried and true! Let the Fates decide… meaning we’ll pick an instrument for you to rock out on.

We Rock typically takes place on a long weekend (3 or 4 days) in the late winter or early spring. This might include a Thursday or Friday evening session and sessions Saturday and Sunday. Check our calendar for specific dates and times.

We make every effort to plan a retreat that accommodate schedules for working adults and folx in school or with children, but realize not everyone will have the same availability:

We ask that if you commit to We Rock, you attend the full schedule so you and your bandmates have the best experience.

Registration opens Jan. 1st!

All tuition from the We Rock Retreat goes to fund youth scholarships for our Summer Camps! 

In our 10+ years as an organization, we have never turned anyone away due to a lack of funds, and we never will.

Pay-what-you-can Sliding Scale & Application Fee

Tuition is on a sliding scale ($1 - $400+),  and based on annual household income. 

There is a $25, non-refundable, application fee. If you need assistance with this fee, email info@girlsrockdsm.org

If for any reason you decide to cancel your registration, an additional $50 cancellation fee will apply.

Each year we select a Des Moines music venue to house our We Rock Retreat Showcase. This event is ticketed and open to the public! All funds raised go directly to the Youth Scholarship Fund.
