National Coming Out Day Picnic
Hosted by LGBTQ+ Nonprofit Roundtable, this is a free community-wide celebration and picnic for National Coming Out Day. Whether you have been out for years or are still figuring things out, this a community gathering for the whole family. There will be fun games, art, food, and amazing community! Find us on the grounds of the Mickle Center at 1620 Pleasant Street.

Fall We Rock Retreat
During this long-weekend retreat, adults 18+ and out of high school get the signature Summer Rock Camp experience!
In addition to making friends and having fun, rockers will form bands on their first day of the retreat! In addition to personal instrument instruction, they will collaborate & write one original tune, and learn a curated cover tune. Bands will be mentored by at least one band coach. Rockers also have the opportunity to learn from our workshops ranging from Audio Engineering, and Self-care, to Bystander Training, Songwriting, and the Herstory of Women, Trans, and Gender-Expansive People in Music.

Performance Band Summer Showcase
Come watch our Performance Band rock out at their end of summer showcase! The showcase will be held at our HQ in Windsor Presbyterian Church (6301 University Ave, Windsor Heights, IA, 50324). Doors open at 5:30 PM, and music will run from 6-7 PM.
Entry to this event is cost free, however donations will be accepted.

Before joining Community Band, all rockers are required to submit an audition. During auditions, rockers will be expected to…
Come ready to share what your top three instrument choices for the season are.
Play 32 bars (or one minute) of any song you choose on the instrument you’re most comfortable playing.
Complete a 16 bar solo (any piece/song that highlights your abilities best).
Take a rhythm and ear training test & a short interview with band directors.
We will be holding auditions for our Spring semester on 8/26 and 8/27.

July Rock Camp
Girls Rock! Des Moines’ Summer Rock Camp is a two-week, empowering music program that amplifies self-confidence and musical skill!
From July 21 until August 3, campers form bands, learn an instrument, play/write music, attend educational workshops, enjoy visiting artist performances, and perform in an exciting public showcase at the end of camp!

GR!T Camp
If you are an aspiring songwriter, producer, sound engineer, session musician, or person interested in technology, GR!T Camp is the place for you!
GR!T Camp offers experimental learning in recording artistry, audio engineering, audio technology and production… through working with an actual record label! Throughout camp, rockers will work to record an EP with will be available to listen to on streming services. This two week long experience will take place from July 7 until July 18.

Join us on May 22nd for our Community Band Showcase! The showcase will take place at our HQ which is located at 6301 University Ave in Windsor Heights. Doors open at 5:30, music starts at 6. We will be accepting a suggested donation of $10/free will donation. We hope to see you there!

Made in the Midwest: Allegra Hernandez
Made in the Midwest, a new Des Moines Performing Arts concert series, highlights the artistry of local musicians in the intimate Temple Theater. Celebrating the talents of independent artists from across our region, guests will enjoy a unique experience where the musicians take center stage in a venue known for its unparalleled acoustic quality.
The Made in the Midwest concert series will be highlighting local artist Allegra Hernandez! Tickets for this performance start at $20.

Open Mic Night at The Slow Down Coffee Co.
Join GR!DSM for an all ages open mic and fundraiser at the Slow Down Coffee! Come play some songs and jam with your friends. This event is open to the public!

Unplugged Retreat
Unplugged is a weekend retreat where participants learn about writing and performing original songs as a singer-songwriter. Youth work solo or with a group to write and perform an original song in one weekend!

Community Record Day
Community Record Day is an all-day recording session serving emerging artists. Solo or duo artists ages 12-24 can apply to have one of their songs recorded for only $50 at the GR!T Records Studio! You will receive a professional live recording of your song with an ultra affordable rate as we help you amplify your unique voice as an artist.

Women's History Month Music Festival
Join local bands Look @ Me, Munk Rivers, Allegra Hernandez, Mia Prosperi, and more for the Woman’s History Month Music Festival! This event celebrates women in music and the arts and is an opportunity to honor women’s contributions to the creative world while enjoying live music and community events.
Tickets can be purchased at the door. $10 for an all day pass, $7 for single entry, $5 for students with an ID. 15% of your ticket goes directly to IowaCASA (Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault).

ICC's Arts & Culture Advocacy Day 2025
GR!DSM is calling on our community to show up at the State Capital on March 5. We want our state representatives to fund arts & culture in Iowa. Let’s advocate for arts and culture in Iowa together!
Join the Iowa Cultural Coalition as they host their third annual Arts & Culture Advocacy Day at the Iowa State Capitol on Wednesday, March 5, from 7:00 - 9:00am! During this time ICC will be hosting a breakfast for our legislators and visiting with them about advocating for more public investment in arts and culture in Iowa.
After the breakfast ends at 9:00am, if you are able to attend in person, we encourage you to talk with your representative or senator when they are out of committee hearings. If you are not able to attend in person, we encourage you to be a virtual advocate and will provide you with detailed information to email to your legislators.

WE ROCK Showcase
Come see the hard work our WE ROCK Retreat participants have put in at our annual WE ROCK Showcase! Join us for some great original music and a silent auction. All ticket sales/money raised from the silent auction will benefit GR!DSM and our scholarship fund.

IMMAWII: Education Day
GR!DSM will have a table at this event where we will be leading mini workshops! Come visit us in the STEM section on 2/7/25 between 9 am and 2 pm!

ADULT JAM: 18+ (OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL)
Adult Jam is a monthly get-together for camp staff, volunteers, previous contributors, friends of Girls Rock, those interested in helping with the program, and anyone else interested in jamming out with fellow cis-women, nonbinary, and trans adults! It takes place every month from 6 PM - 8 PM. This event will be held at Windsor Presbyterian Church but is not affiliated with the church.

Community Band Auditions- Spring Semester
Come rock out with us this semester! We are having auditions/placements for our spring semester of community band. In our placement process, you will play an excerpt of a song for our instructors on your instrument of choice, then our instructors will place you in a band with similarly-experienced youth!

YOUTH JAM: 18 AND UNDER (IN HIGH-SCHOOL)
Rock out, jam out, and hang out with other youth! Find your community at Girls Rock! We provide all instruments and equipment, you just need to bring yourself! Youth Jam free to attend and is for cis girls, trans youth, and gender nonconforming youth ages 8-18.

Join us for a night of karaoke and winter holiday fun! This event is for all ages and free to attend.
